Lifelong Westport resident and icon, Phillip McHugh passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, March 3. Phil will be remembered as a friend and brother to many and all who knew him. An artist and mariner, Phil worked and surrounded himself with the sea. He retired as art director for the US Navy’s graphic design department in Newport, RI after years of fishing and waterfront work out of Westport and New Bedford. A true lover of Westport and its environs, Phil held a master’s degree in fine arts from Boston University, worked in advertising in New York and was a long term life guard at Horseneck Beach.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife Ellen, friends and family from Westport to Wisconsin.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Main Road, Westport on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 10:00AM.
