…retired Engineer at Boston and Maine R.R.; 88
CLERMONT, FL - Mr. Roy D. Parsons Jr., age 88, died peacefully Monday evening, March 4, with his family at his side, at the Quality Health Care Center in Winter Garden, FL. He was the beloved husband for 53 years of Doris P. (Buzzell) Parsons, who died in 1999.
Roy was born in Patten, Maine, on January 16, 1925, one of four children of the late Roy and Louise (Field) Parsons. He was raised in Presque Isle, and graduated from high school in Presque Isle. He enlisted into the U.S. Army, and was assigned overseas to the Panama Canal Zone. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant with the Military Police division.
He and his wife settled in Tewksbury in 1953 to raise their family.
He proudly served as a Locomotive Engineer for the Boston and Main Railroad, and retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union.
In 1996, he and Doris retired to “Polo Park West” in Davenport, where he was active in the V.F.W. Post 6931 in Polo Park. After his wife passed, he joined his son and daughter-in-law in Clermont. He had been in residence at Quality Heath Center for the past eighteen months.
He leaves two sons, Stephen and his wife Karen (Longo) Parsons of Merrimack, NH, John and his wife Germaine (Hardy) Parsons of Clermont, FL; a son-in-law, Robert L. Boutin of Billerica who was husband of his late daughter, Gloira J. Boutin; a brother, Robert Parsons of Greenland, NH; a sister, Glendora and her husband Fred Pettygrove of Hampstead, NC,; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
He was also father of the late Robert G. Parsons, and brother of the late and Dorothy Fisher.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Monday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. in Tewksbury Cemetery.
