Richard M. Doyle of West Roxbury, son of the late Frederick T. Doyle and Katharine (Silsbury) Doyle, died at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center on March 2, 2013. He Was 81.
Mr. Doyle was born in Boston and raised in West Roxbury. He attended public schools until his enrollment at Boston College High School. He graduated with the Class of 1949, where he was noted as a stand out athlete. His greatest recognition came as a member of the football team, where he received many accolades, awards and a full athletic scholarship to Georgetown University. In 1988, he was inducted into the B.C. High Athletic Hall of Fame.
After college, Mr. Doyle attended and graduated from the Boston University Law School. He passed the Bar in 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a Judge Advocate General (J.A.G.) in the Philippines and Japan, attaining the rank of Captain.
In civilian life, he was a partner in the family law firm of Doyle and Doyle. He also worked for private sector defense contractors and the Federal Government until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Eileen Maloney Tamposi. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Doyle of West Roxbury and his children, Richard M. Doyle, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, of Melrose, Charles R. Doyle and his wife Jenn, of Fairfield, Ct., Katharine Doyle MacLeod and her husband, Michael, of Hollis, N.H. and Molly Doyle, of West Roxbury. He was the brother of the late Hon. Frederick T. Doyle, Jr. and Rep. Charles R. Doyle, both formerly of West Roxbury. His surviving siblings are William J. Doyle and his wife Helene, of Falmouth, Catherine Doyle, of West Roxbury, Norbert Doyle, of Penn., Edward Doyle, of Needham and Anne Doyle, of Brighton. He also leaves eight grand children and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Thursday, March 7 at 9am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
