Pauline M. (Monteiro) Cardoza, 72, of New Bedford died July 20, 2004 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of Donald R. Cardoza, to whom she had been married for 50 years.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel R. and Constance B. (Baptista) Monteiro, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Cardoza was formerly employed as a financial analyst overseeing the Community Development program for the City of New Bedford. In her retirement, she enjoyed her work at the control desk at Wonder Bowl lanes and part-time at Filene's.
An avid bowler, she was the Treasurer of the SBCWBA and on the Board of Directors of the MWBA Bowler, treasurer of Aerovox Mixed league and treasurer of the Wednesday Senior's League.
Mrs. Cardoza was a devoted wife, nana, mother and sister and will be greatly missed. She enjoyed Saturday's shopping with her sister Mary and her granddaughters, or just hanging around.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Corey A. Cardoza, and his wife Mary, of Acushnet; a daughter, Wendy L. Mello, and her husband Tom, of New Bedford; 3 brothers, Adolph Monteiro of New Bedford, George B. Monteiro of Rockville, MD, and Joseph "Billy" Monteiro, and his wife Margie, of Wareham; 5 sisters, Evelyn Almeida and Alice Leighton, both of South Dartmouth, and Mary Ames, Betty Ann Fermino and Marion Barrows, all of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Mello, Sarah Mello and Amy A. Cardoza; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Arthur Monteiro, Edward Monteiro and Robert Monteiro, and sister-in-law of the late Gloria B. Monteiro, Isabel Monteiro, Leo Leighton, Armando Almeida, Kenny Barrows and Barry Fermino.
