David D. Cook, Sr.

Dateline: Norton, MA

David D. Cook, Sr., age 69 of Norton, formerly of Mansfield passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. (Vezina) Cook.
Born in Medford, MA on January 6, 1944, he was a son of the late Lawrence W. and Helen L. (Whitman) Cook.
David grew up and was educated in Natick. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged from the service on January 15,1965 with the rank of Seamen E-3.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Cook had worked as a truck driver for many years. He made his home in Norton for the past 22 years and had formerly been a resident of Mansfield.
David’s hobbies included playing golf, ping pong, card games and trips to Foxwoods. His family was a special part of his life and he was also a supporter of local VFW and American Legion posts in his hometown of Natick.’
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children; Kim A. Hilf of Norton, David D. Cook, Jr. of Norton, Joe W. Cook and his wife Jeannie of Attleboro and Bill C. Cook and his wife Christine of Mansfield. He was the brother of Carol Burkentine and her husband Chuck of Pennsylvania, Richard Cook of New Hampshire, Sandra Rice and her husband Elwin of Wilmington, Lawrence Cook and his wife Valerie of Framingham, Deborah Cook of Framingham, Dorothy-Jean Osborne of Florida and the late Bill Cook. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Steven Cook, Garrett Cook, Ashley Hilf, Joseph Hilf, Olivia Cook, Nora Cook, Madelyn Cook and Morgan Cook, his brother in law John Vezina of Wrentham, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday, March 3rd from 2:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Cook’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
