New Bedford – Joao DaCunha, aged 80 years, passed away on Tuesday, February 26th at St. Luke’s Hospital. Joao was the beloved husband of Ana (DaCruz) DaCunha of New Bedford. He was the loving father of 3 children: Rosa Santos and her husband Joao of New Bedford; Celia Frazier and her husband Frederick of New Bedford; and John DaCunha and his wife Mandy of Gulf Port, Mississippi. Other members of his family include: 5 grandchildren: Stephanie, Brittany, Bianca, Benjamin and Jacqueline; 4 step-grandchildren: Jennifer, Tyler, Robert and Rebecca and 5 siblings: Mariana, Carmen, Maria, Jose, Manuel and Julio.
Joao was born in Setubal, Portugal, son of Maria (Puraficacao) and Manuel Tavares. He immigrated to the United States in 1974 and owned several fishing vessels in New Bedford before he retirement.
Mr. DaCunha’s visiting hours will be Friday, March 1st from 5 – 7 P.M at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. Please omit flowers.
