Leo F. McNeely, age 69 of Brockton died Tuesday February 26, 2013 under hospice care at Signature Healthcare after a courageous two month battle with cancer. He was the loving husband for 44 years of Kathleen V. (Kavanagh) McNeely. Born and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (Joyce) McNeely and had resided in Brockton since 1978.
Leo was a 1961 graduate of Dorchester High School and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the US Postal Service GMF in Boston and previously worked in the Back Bay office. Leo was a founding member of the Downey Little League special needs team and had been a Cub Scout leader with Pack 2. He enjoyed travel and playing the accordion. Leo’s true joy in life was his family, especially spending time with his grandson Michael.
He was the devoted father of Sean McNeely and his wife Michelle of Halifax and Brendan McNeely and his wife Sarah of Stoughton. He was the proud papa of Michael and Hannah and the brother of James McNeely and his wife Pauline of Weymouth; Patricia Brooks and her husband Alan of Canton; Sheila McNeely of Canton and the late Charles McNeely and his widow Anita of Brockton. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 3-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 9 am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:15 am.
