Jose Faria Gonçalves, 75, of New Bedford died Sunday July 18, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Manuel L. and Bela Faria (Andrade) Goncalves, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Goncalves was formerly employed as a machine operator for Columbia Cable Company until his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Maria Celeste Goncalves of Paris, France; 3 brothers, Alberto F. Goncalves and Luiz F. Goncalves, both of Pawtucket, RI, and Adriel F. Goncalves of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Maria Bela Fonseca of Pawtucket, and Adelinda dePina of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joao F. Goncalves.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday July 21, 2004 at 9 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Tuesday July 20, 2004 from 5-9 PM.
