William F. “Bill” McCormack age 74 of Brockton died Wednesday February 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the devoted husband of Elinor (McLellan) McCormack for 54 years. Born and raised in Charlestown, he was a son of the late William and Mary (Trotter) McCormack. Since 1971 he had been a resident of Brockton.
A 1957 graduate of Cathedral High School, Bill also attended Northeastern University and became a mechanical engineer. He had been involved in many projects including the design of parts for the Hubble Spacecraft, computers, lottery machines and slot machines. He was a member and past president of the New England Design Drafting Managers Association and a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers and the American Institute of Design Drafting.
Bill had been very involved in St. Margaret’s Church as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and principal of the junior high CCD program. He had also been active in the Boys Scouts organization in Brockton from Cub Scouts to being an adult advisor for Explorers Post 44. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, horse races, dabbling in investments, computers and do-it-yourself projects. But most of all Bill enjoyed spending time with his family.
Bill is also survived by his seven children Susan Yost and her husband James of Bridgewater; Deborah O’Connor and her companion James Rhody of Brooklyn, NY; William McCormack and his companion Tatia Madore of Brockton; Steven McCormack and his wife Jeannette of E. Bridgewater; Carol Pigeon and her husband John of W. Bridgewater; James McCormack and his wife Donna of Wareham and David McCormack and his wife Tracy of Plymouth. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of James McCormack of Georgia and the late Mary Cook and Louise Snow.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Friday 4-8 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Ann Church, West Bridgewater at 10 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
