Obituary

Elizabeth A. (Byrne) Bransfield, 93, of South Natick died in her home on February 15, 2013.  

Born in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Bransfield had lived in South Natick for more than 65 years. She was a graduate of Classical High School in Providence, Rhode Island and Pembroke College. 
 
She worked at the family owned Wellesley Inn in Wellesley, MA, and began a lifelong involvement in public service in the Town of Natick.  Mrs. Bransfield (Libby) served as a Town Meeting member, Planning Board member and Chair, Finance Committee member and Chair, Metropolitan Area Planning Council Representative and President, Town of Natick Planning Director, MBTA Advisory Board Representative and Vice-Chairman and finally Community Development Director.  In these roles she was involved in many of the projects that transformed Natick. Among the most notable were the Natick Mall, the expansion of  the Leonard Morse Hospital, the rebuilding and enlarging of the Morse Institute Library, and the new town center, including a new Police and Fire Station, and a new Town Hall.
 
As stated in the 1997 Natick Town Report's Dedication . . . " In each role Libby brought a special 'leadership' which quickly influenced those with whom she served to do their best and to act in Natick's best interest. This gift is Libby's legacy to Natick, and the reason that so many who served with her and for her held her in such high regard."
 
She enjoyed a lifetime of summers on the Cape in Cataumet, Megansett and Pocasset and traveling with her family to Ireland, Italy, Alaska and England.
 
She was the wife of the late Edward J. Bransfield, who taught mathematics at Natick High School for 32 years.

She leaves a son Stephen and his wife Jane of Bonita Springs, Florida; her daughters Ellen of South Natick and Ann Wallace and her husband David of Rye, NY; Grandmother of Kevin C. Wallace, Colin B. Wallace, Shannon Wallace Weber all of New York, NY and Allison Bransfield Hjelmstad of San Francisco, CA, Great Grandmother of Owen, Brenden and Henry Lifeso Wallace
Sister of Agatha Stanard of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and the late James W. Byrne of Santa Rosa, CA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Tuesday February 19 at 9:00 A.M. from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Patrick Church at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours are Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Interment in the Glenwood Cemetery South Natick.
