Edmund Medeiros, 90, of Westport died Thursday, February 14, 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was the husband of Helena N. (Niemiec) Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Alfred and Mary (Amaral) Medeiros, he raised his family in Barrington prior to moving to Westport over 30 years ago. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the Navy. Edmund began his teaching career in Westport then continued his teaching profession in Rhode Island for over 30 years. He was a member of the Star of the East A.F. & A.M. and the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. Mr. Medeiros enjoyed teaching, gardening, traveling, making wine and being on the river. He also loved animals and was a skilled woodworker.
Including his wife, survivors include a daughter: Pamela M. Skammels and her husband Jack of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Nicholas A. Stone, Jessica L. Skammels and Mia K. Skammels; and a son-in-law: Randall Stone. He was father of the late Karyn A. Stone.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Potter Funeral Home
at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 – 11 A.M. prior to the service with a Masonic service held at 10:00 A.M. under the direction of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M.
Interment will be private.
