December 1, 1945 to February 10, 2013
Jimmie Curtis Stewart, 67, of Anderson, Indiana, died February 10, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, following an extended illness.
He was born on December 1, 1945, in Schlater, Mississippi, and was reared in Muncie, Indiana.. He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1963, and thereafter attended Ball State University on a “full ride’ scholarship. During college, Jimmie participated in the Air Force ROTC and performed with the AFROTC Marching Matadors. After taking a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Jimmie enlisted in the United States Air Force and upon completion of his participation in Pilot Training, he flew several tours during the Viet Nam War and held a host of other positions during his 8 years of service with the military. He received numerous awards and metals for his service in the Air Force.
After honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jimmie was employed as a Family Case Manager or a Supervisor for Child Protective Services in Madison, Marion, and Noble Counties in the State, and worked in similar positions while living in Colorado.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Irma Hampton (Nave) Stewart of Anderson, He is also survived by his mother, Elois Johnson Stewart, his sister, Chequita Stewart, and his brother, Cleotha Stewart II, all of Muncie. Jimmie is also survived by his daughter, Tiffany Stewart and by 2 Step Sons, David and Alan Nave, all of Indianapolis, his niece, Garnisha Mason and 2 nephews, Christopher and Jason Mason, of Muncie. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Alexis Joyner, Jordyn Tillman, Devon Nave, Brianna Nave, Blake Nave, Corey Nave, Donovan Nave, Brock Davis and Abigail Davis, as well as, by several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, Cleotha Stewart, and his sister, Patricia Mason.
Visitation will be from 11am-1pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Wallace Temple AME Zion Church, 1518 Forkner St., Anderson, IN 46016. Services will immediately follow at the church with Rev. Dr. Anthony K. R. Gibson presiding.
