Obituary

GROTON: Isabel (Sadler) Plavidal, age 86, of Groton, formerly of Dover, passed on to eternal life with the Lord on Friday, February 8, 2013. She was the loving wife of the late Louis Plavidal, Jr., for 61 years.

Born in Oil City, PA, on November 18, 1926, she was one of three daughters born to Carl C. and Frances T. (Lay) Sadler. She was raised and educated in Arlington, VA, and met Louis while they were at Washington Lee High School. When Louis went off to serve with the US Navy during the war, Isabel continued her education at Hood College in Maryland. She had completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree by the time Louis returned, and was employed as a telephone operator while he studied to earn his degree. They married in 1948.

Isabel was devoted to Louis and was a true helpmate during his career with General Electric. After a few years in Maryland the Plavidal’s moved to Lynn, MA, and thus began the countless moves around the country with GE. Isabel handled the moves with equanimity and was always gracious when entertaining business associates and new friends. She was a loving and attentive mother who fostered her children’s faith in the Lord.

In 1980, Isabel and Louis settled into a lovely home in Dover and were blessed with a long retirement together. For many years she volunteered her time and warmth to an area VNA as a home health aide. She was pleased to teach children’s classes for the Bible Study Fellowship, and was a longtime active member. She was endlessly patient and a calming influence on her family, kept in close touch with friends through the years and always looked forward to family gatherings. Her gardens were beautiful.

She is survived by two sons, Gary S. Plavidal and his wife Olga of Seattle, WA, Richard W. Plavidal and his wife Mei of Milpitas, CA; her daughter, Joy P. Jordan and her husband Kenneth of Groton; her grandchildren, Marina, Rachel, Sam, Rebekah, Sarah, and Marie; her great-grandson, Jacob; her sisters, Margaret Kirby and her husband Elgin of Weems, VA, and Laura Ann Miller and her husband Earl of Tulsa, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral services will be private. Gifts in Isabel’s memory may be made to World Missions in care of Westgate Church, 100 Winter Street, Weston, MA 02493.
