Mr. Thomas C. Somerville, Jr., a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (Fitzgerald) Somerville, died on Monday morning, February 11, 2013, at the Lahey-Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was 85 years old. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on November 27, 1927, Mr. Somerville was the beloved son of the late Thomas C., Sr. and Mary (Cameron) Somerville. Mr. Somerville was a graduate of Northeastern University, was an Electrical Engineer and a Jack-of-all-Trades. In addition to his Masters Electrician license, Mr. Somerville continued his education up until his death and had additional licenses and multiple other related trades. He was a long term member of the Irish American Club in Malden and an accomplished bagpiper in their club marching band. Mr. Somerville was also a member of the Shriners in Wilmington and the Elks of Medford. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed being with his family and participating with his grandchildren’s activities, playing golf, and traveling. He especially loved his camp in Maine, and extended an open door for all his friends and family to enjoy. Above all Mr. Somerville was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be very sorely missed by his loving children; Cathy J. and her husband H. Joseph Stanley of Milton, New Hampshire, Thomas C. and his wife Laurel A. Somerville of Tewksbury, Rae A. Somerville of Saugus and Scot D. and his wife Pamela E. Somerville of Medford, devoted grandchildren; Aaron, Jessica and her husband Brian, Cody, Maura, Melanie, Deirdre, Lindsay, Andrew and Patrick “Fitzy”, nieces and nephews; Bruce, Debbie, Diane and Johnny L., dearest friends; Tommy O’Callaghan and Peggy Zachary and his Scottish Terrier, Maggie. He was also the brother of the late Isabelle Burke and Nancy Weber and uncle of the late Richie Weber.
His funeral service was celebrated in the First Community United Methodist Church, 55 Otis Street, Medford, Thursday, February 12, 2013, at 11 AM. Man relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Wednesday, February 13, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was privately held.
