Obituary

Louis J. Cappiello, age 89, of Brockton died February 6, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the husband for 66 years, of Theresa (Beauregard) Cappiello. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Michael and Carmela (Picciuto) Cappiello. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1942, and an Army Veteran of World War II. During the war, Louis served overseas in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. While a student at Brockton High School, he was co-captain of the school’s Baseball Team and played Minor League Baseball for the Cincinnati Reds. For many years he had been employed at the Post Office, as well as Bond Bread and Brockton Gas Company. He was the former owner of the Wine Chalet in Hull, the L&M Bar in Brockton, and Cappiello’s Restaurant in Raynham. He was a former member of the Blue Eagle Club, Club National and American Postal Workers Union. An avid sports fan, he also enjoyed history and playing cards, but time spent with his family was his favorite pastime.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Diane Wilbur and her husband Arthur of Taunton, Louis “Sonny” and his wife Janis of Brockton, James of Brockton, Donald and his wife Alexandra of Taunton, Robert of Brockton and Maryanne Leary and her husband Brian of Brockton; grandchildren Melissa and Amanda Wilbur, Marc and Lisa Cappiello, Stephanie Luddy, Matthew L., Michael A. and Sarah Cappiello, Matthew J. and Michael L. Cappiello and Vincent Cappiello. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, his daughter in law Mary Cappiello, a sister Theresa Poliseno and her husband Carmen of Brockton, a brother Michael “Duna” Cappiello and his wife Jean of West Bridgewater and many loving nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Dennis Cappiello and brother of the late Thomas Cappiello and Concetta “Tina” Sylvia.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday 3-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
