Obituary

CHICOPEE – Helen B. (Roy) Balthazard, 80, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee on March 13, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Alphonsine (Roy) Roy and was raised and lived in Aldenville for many years. She furthered her education and later became an X-Ray Technician. She lived in Sun City Center, Florida for around 10 years before returning to Chicopee in 2009. During her early years, Helen was employed as an X-Ray Technician at the former Providence Hospital in Holyoke and then became a stay at home mom to raise her family. Helen was an exceptional seamstress and was often seen by many people on her daily walks. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends at the Aldenville Senior Center and also enjoyed playing golf at the Orchards in South Hadley. She was a wonderful woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her four loving children, Debra Johnson and her husband, Frank of Chicopee, Donna Dube and her husband, John of Ware, Denise Hess and her husband, Michael of Andover, MN and Roy Balthazard, Jr. of Osterville, MA; her nine cherished grandchildren who affectionately called her “Nana”, Lyndsay Johnson, Leigh Anne Andrews and her husband, Ryan, Brandon Dube and his wife, Patrycia, Brianna Dube, Ryan Hess, Jenna Hess and her partner, Lucy Pastore, Sarah Hess, Nathan Balthazard and Curtis Balthazard; her three cherished great grandchildren who were the apple of her eye, Emily Hess, Jordyn Hess and Molleigh Hess; her dear sister, Cecile Lajoie and her husband, Joseph of Granby; her dear brother, Joseph Roy of the Aldenville section of Chicopee; her dear brother-in-law, Robert Woolsey of Dearborn, MI; her many dear nephews and nieces; and her former husband, Roy A. Balthazard of Belchertown. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Maurice Roy; and her two dear sisters, Jeannine Woolsey and Aline Fontaine. Her family will greet friends on Tuesday morning, February 5, 2013 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
