METHUEN – Sr. Rita St. Laurent, 89 died Thursday January 31, 2013 at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary.
Born in Onesime de Kamouraska, Canada February 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Aurore (Dube) St. Laurent. She entered the Order of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1941 in Hudson, NH and made her first vows in 1944 and her final vows in 1949 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rivier College in 1955.
From 1944 until 1957, she taught elementary school in Concord, Manchester, and at Presentation of Mary in Hudson, NH and also at Notre Dame Elementary in Phenix, RI. In 1957 she left for the Philippines Islands where she ministered in schools of Jolo, Mintal, Catalunan. In 1960 she was assigned as 1st Regional Superior of the Presentation of Mary Philippine Missions. In 1973 she returned to the Manchester Province and taught in schools of Beecher Falls, Berlin, NH and St. Vincent de Paul in Coventry, RI and in 1992 returned to Presentation of Mary in Hudson, NH as tutor for Elementary students and as an aide in the After School Program.
She is survived by her sisters, Sr. Jeanne d`Arc St. Laurent also of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, Madeline Bucklin of Sanford, ME, Claire Guilmette and her husband Thomas of York, ME, Lorraine Ashworth of Teaticket, MA, Louise Thibaudeau of Rochester, NH; one sister-in-law Mrs. Lionel St. Laurent of Nashua, NH.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held of Monday from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Saint Claire Residence of the Presentation of Mary 209 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 2:30p.m. in the Presentation of Mary Chapel, burial will be in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery also in Methuen, MA.
