Mary Rose (Mitchell) Murphy of Lawrence passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Halcyon House in Methuen.
Mary was born, raised and educated in Lawrence. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's Grammar and St. Mary's High School (class of 1938) where she was given the distinguished honor of being May Queen in her Senior Year.
Mary was a longtime and active member of Saint Claire of Catholic Women and the Ladies Sodality of Saint Patrick’s Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for Donovan Spring in Lawrence for many years.
Through the years Mary enjoyed her hobbies which included knitting and crocheting afghans and making dolls, many of which have been lovingly kept by her children daughter Rita A. Murphy of Salisbury, MA, son Edward J. Murphy, Jr. of Lawrence, MA, daughter Kathleen and her husband David Beattie of Pelham, NH and daughter Susan Murphy of Salisbury, MA. Mary had 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Murphy to whom she was married for 65 years and her sister Rita (Mitchell) McDermott.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church in South Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
