Genevieve A. “Genny” (McManus) McDonald age 79 of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died Wednesday January 30, 2013 at St. Joseph Manor after a period of failing health. She was the loving wife of the late John F. “Franny” McDonald. Genevieve was born in Boston the youngest child of the late Thomas F. and Grace A. (Melanphy) McManus. She was raised in the South End of Boston and had lived in Brockton since 1966 before moving to Bridgewater to make her home with her daughter four years ago.
Genevieve retired from Fitwell Corporation in Avon and had previously worked at Churchill Linen and Knapp Shoe both in Brockton. She loved going out dancing with her husband and had been an active member of St. Margaret’s Church. Genevieve’s true joy in life was her family, especially time spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as being a people person; she was outgoing and loved life.
Genevieve was the devoted mother of Grace Ann McDonald-Nay and her husband Jim of Fall River; Linda (McDonald) Howard and her husband Tom of Bridgewater; John F. McDonald, Jr. of Trinity, FL and Joseph P. McDonald and his wife Ana of Brockton. She leaves her cherished grandchildren Alison Bryan, Joseph and Julia McDonald and Jacob Howard. She was the sister of the late Thomas, Joseph, Paul and Lorraine McManus, Grace Fitzpatrick and Theresa Mason. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-6 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
