Joseph G. Cantera passed away on January 29, 2013. He was 89 years old.
A longtime resident of Malden, Joseph was a lover of sports and a big New York Yankees fan. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class on the SS Bennington and was part of the first group to be commissioned on the ship.
Joseph was the devoted husband of 62 years to Lorraine (Falcone) Cantera. He was the son of the late Guido and Mary Cantera. Joseph was the beloved father of Duane Cantera of Stoneham and Donna Cantera Davis and her husband Peter of Arlington. He was the dear brother of Claire Hawkes and her husband Chris of Santa Clara, CA and the late Ann Collins and her late husband Odell and the brother-in-law of Yvonne Falcone and her late husband Domenic. Joseph was the cherished grandfather of Matthew Davis and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Friday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31st from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
