WORCESTER- Laura Virginia (Champlin) Grant, 88, died Sat. July 10, 2004 at the Christopher House Nursing Home. Her former husband, Henry D. Grant died in 1978. She leaves a son, Don Grant of Northampton, 2 daughters, Ginger L. Navickas of Worcester and Susan L. Black of Bellingham, 3 grandchildren, Tiffany L. Cariglia, Nathaniel G. Black & April K. Grant. 2 great-grandchildren, Arianna L. & Alexander D. Cariglia.
She was born in Fall River, daughter of Edwin & Laura May (O’Meliah) Champlin. She graduated from Commerce High School. She was an Administrative Assistant for the Mass. Commonwealth (D.M.R.) She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Worcester, the F.B.C., the N.O.W., the W.A.M., & the A.C.L.U. Before her illness, Laura had been an activist for women’s equality and an advocate for the mentally retarded.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 12, 2004 from 6-9 PM at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Flowers may be sent or donations can be made to the YMCA Daybreak Program, 1 Salem Square, Worcester, MA 01608.
