TEWKSBURY: Doris T. (Morency) Lafortune, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 53 years, died Friday evening, July 9, 2004 at the Tewksbury Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
She was the wife of Raymond R. Lafortune with whom she would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 25th.
Born in Lowell on January 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Amanda (Eno) Morency.
Mrs. Lafortune was raised in Lowell and attended Lowell parochial schools.
Prior to her retirement, she and her husband owned and operated Flowers by Raymond & Garland of Tewksbury for 35 years.
She was an active communicant and supporter of St. William’s Parish of Tewksbury. Mrs. Lafortune was a 35 year member of the St. William’s Ladies Sodality. In addition, she helped organize and participated in numerous variety shows held by St. William’s Parish.
Mrs. Lafortune along with her husband volunteered at the Tewksbury Hospital for 38 years, during which time she organized the existing patient’s choir.
She was a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center.
Mrs. Lafortune enjoyed traveling to the Florida and her many summers spent at area beaches.
In addition to her husband she is survived by 3 daughters; Denise C. Deery and her husband John B. Deery of Carroll, NH, Anne Marie Gauthier and her husband Roland A. Gauthier of Hudson, NH and Renee T. Ronan and her husband Kevin M. Ronan of Tyngsboro; 3 sons; Girard J. Lafortune of Plymouth, Mass, Tewksbury Police Officer Raymond C. Lafortune and his wife Colleen (Cronin) of Lowell and Andre W. “Andy” Lafortune and his wife Beth (French) of Tewksbury; 3 sisters; Annette Bergeron and her husband Roland of Tyngsboro, Vivian Dennis of Charlotte, NC and Suzanne LaBranche and her husband Joseph of Hampton, NH; 4 brothers; Wilfred Morency and his wife Lorraine (Michaud) of Nashua, NH, Normand Morency and his wife Darleen (Bendicksen) of Westford, Leon Morency and his wife Lorraine (Montbleau) of Lowell and Robert Morency of Nashua, NH; 15 grandchildren; Marjon Teffner, Denise Marie Biathrow, John B. Deery, Jr. and Christine A. DeAmicis, Raymond C. Jr., Timothy J. and Matthew J. Lafortune, Lindsay A., Andrew T., Cody J. and Benn G. Lafortune, Ashley D. and Kristin A. Gauthier, Kaliegh T. and Emily C. Ronan; 6 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
