Obituary

WORCESTER-Howard David Capen, 51, of 10 Thayer Street, died Friday, July 9th in U Mass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus after an illness. He leaves his wife of 29 years, Diane L. (Backstrom) Capen, a son, Matthew J. Capen of Worcester, a daughter, Amanda L. Capen of Worcester, his mother, Rose (McCabe) Capen of Bandon, OR, a brother, James Capen of Goldsboro, NC, 2 sisters, Cathy Hutchinson of Bandon, OR and Suzanne Schultz of Portland, OR, and several nephews and nieces.

He was born in New Brunswick, NJ, the son of Howard Davenport Capen and was a graduate of Becker Junior College and Clark University both in Worcester. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War era. Mr. Capen was a Business Operations Analyst at Allmerica Financial Corporation for several years and was previously a Financial Analyst for the former WCIS. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing and was a fan of the Boston Bruins.

The funeral service is Tuesday, July 13th at 10:00 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, July 12th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1048 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
