WESTON: Edward John “Jack” Barbetti, 87, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 21, 2013 in Tampa, Florida.
He was born in Boston on August 18, 1925 the son of the late Sullivan Barbatti and Bessy (Doyle) Barbatti.
He is survived by his loving wife Pauline R. (Vella) Barbetti of Weston. Devoted father of Paula B. Nicholas and her husband Paul Nicholas of Wayland, Kathleen B. Hay and her husband Robert Hay of Nova Scotia, Canada and Jacqueline W. Barbetti of Plant City, Florida. He was the cherished grandfather of Edward J. “E.J.” Nicholas of Wayland. He was known as Grandpa Jack to Edward T. McCarthy of Wayland, Cogan J. Register of Wayland and Matthew M. King of Framingham as well as many other close friends of E.J. He is also survived by his dog and faithful companion Ginger and many nieces and nephews.
He has been a resident of Weston for over 57 years and spent his formative years in Worcester. Jack graduated from Framingham High School and received his A.S. in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University. He served his country with honor as a Private First Class with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a proud member of Company “G” Second Battalion Twenty-Fifth Marines Fourth Marine Division during World War II. Jack received a Purple Heart during combat against the enemy at Kwajalein Atoll in the Battle of Saipan in the Asiatic Pacific.
Jack began a long a distinguished career as a Patrolman with the Town of Weston Police Department retiring in August of 1991 after many years of dedicated service to the residents of Weston.
His greatest accomplishment was the time he spent with his family especially at his home in Weston enjoying time around his swimming pool and backyard. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, particularly raising tomato plants. Jack was an avid hockey fan and found great pleasure in watching his grandson, E.J. and his friends play for the Wayland High School hockey team and in his younger years with the Framingham Youth Hockey Program with the Jr. Flyers.
Jack will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him during his lifetime and the many lives that he touched in his 87 years.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
At the request of his family, everyone is invited to go directly to Saint Julia’s Church, 374 Boston Post Rd, Weston Center on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00 AM for his Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will follow in the Barbetti family lot in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Jack’s memory may be sent to the Weston Police Relief Association, 180 Boston Post Road Bypass, Weston, MA 02493.
