ALBERT LOUIS RUNGE, 83, of Hingham and Isle Au Haut, Maine, died on Friday, July 9th at the Bay Path Nursing Center in Duxbury after a long illness. The son of the late Albert H. Runge and the late Ina (Walls) Runge, Mr. Runge was born in Boston and was a graduate of the Boston High School of Commerce and the Bentley School of Accounting. He received a B.A. from Northeastern University, where he was Class Marshall; and an M.B.A. with distinction from the Harvard Business School. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army in five campaigns, including Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge with the 331st Infantry Division, Company L, and was one of the few men from that division to survive the War. A Technical Sergeant, he was honored with a Purple Heart with a Cluster, a Bronze Star for Valor with two Clusters, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He attended the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy with his wife Eunice and the other surviving members of the 331st. After the War, Mr. Runge worked for 12 years as an officer of State Street Bank and Trust in Boston and joined The Pioneer Funds in 1963. He spent 25 years with Pioneer, serving as Treasurer and on the Board of Directors until his retirement in 1989. A 53 year resident of Hingham, he was a former Worshipful Master of the Masonic Temple in Cambridge and was a current member of Old Colony Masonic Lodge in Hingham. He was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Deacon. He was an avid gardener and sailor. He was a member of the Hingham Yacht Club where he was a three time Mercury champion and captain of the Ynes and Vesper. He is survived by his wife, Eunice (Tavares) Runge of Hingham and his three sons; Jeffrey A. Runge of Newmarket, NH., Gregory D. Runge of Isle Au Haut, Maine and Jonathan S. Runge of Beverly, MA. Also survived by six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday evening, July 15th at 7 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 366 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043. Box 9210, Central Islip, NY 11722 (www.ChristopherReeve.org) or to the Hingham Congregational Church. The interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne is to be private.
