Obituary

Leo J. St.Onge, 91, of Westport died Monday, January 21, 2013 at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Mary (Cestodio) St.Onge, whom he had been married to for over 50 years and companion of the late Doris Y. (Michaud) Lussier.

Born in Westport, son of the late Alfonse J. and Celina (Ouellette) St.Onge, he was a lifelong resident of the town. A United States Army veteran of WWII in the 85th Infantry Division, 339th Infantry Regiment, Mr. St.Onge proudly served his country and was known in Westport as the highest decorated soldier of WWII. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the one for which he was the most proud of and the French War Cross Citation. He was also the recipient of the Marion Medal, Fall River Diocese.
Mr. St.Onge worked as a self-employed contractor until his retirement in 1977. He was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 145 of Westport, the Westport VFW Ouellette Post, 8502, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Disabled Veterans of America, Harold Nickerson Chapter 118 of Westport, AMVETS, the Westport Lions and Knights of Columbus. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, January 26, 2013 from the Potter Funeral Home at 7:30 A.M. followed by a 9:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Parish, 529 Eastern Ave., Fall River.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 P.M.

Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.

In lieu of Flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mr. St.Onge may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207, Honor Guard, 489 Sanford Rd., Westport, MA 02790.
