Roland A. LaRose, 80, of 976 North Main Street died July 8, 2004 in Lakes Region General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lowell, MA on March 8, 1924, the son of Joseph and Oveline (Beaudet) LaRose.
Raised in Lowell, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served aboard the USS Bunker Hill in the Pacific theatre. The aircraft carrier saw heavy combat and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for meritorious service.
Following the War, Mr. LaRose moved to Laconia after his marriage to Angeline Cyr in 1946. He was employed by Scott & Williams for more than 23 years. He then established his own business as a Building Contractor, which he operated until his retirement in 1984.
Roland was an avid gardener and was known as “Mr. Fix-It” to his family for his knack of taking care of things.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish and was a member of the USS Bunker Hill Association, the Naval association and a charter member of the World War II Memorial Committee.
Family members include his wife of 58 years, Angeline (Cyr) LaRose of Laconia; a son, Andrew LaRose and his wife Marge LaRose of Harbor City CA; four daughters, Lucille Philipps and her husband Bert Philipps of Gilmanton, Suzanne Nelson and her husband Scott Nelson of North Andover MA, Sandra Kingston and her husband Tim Kingston of Campton and Lisa Mazzochi and her husband Ken Mazzochi of Dover; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Mowers, Kristen Nelson, David Nelson, Katharine Kingston, Margaret Kingston, Moriah Mazzochi, and Bryce Mazzochi; three step-grandchildren, Daniel Philipps, Kelly Skaja and Laurie Skaja; a sister, Cecile Vadeboncoeur of Florida; four brothers, Roger LaRose of Dracut MA, Norman LaRose of Vermont, Frank LaRose of New Jersey and Marcel LaRose of Florida; nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by four brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. Sunday from 6 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave on Monday at 11:30 AM. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor was the celebrant. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 780 North Main St., Laconia NH 03246. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the funeral directors.
