Obituary

Jerome W. Pike, 70, of Manchester, died Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Warm Springs Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, January 7, 2013 at the chapel of Manchester First Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Williamson officiating. Private burial will be held in the Osierfield Cemetery, Irwin County, with Rev. George Paulk officiating.

Mr. Pike was born March 19, 1942 in LaGrange, the son of Charlie Wesley Pike and Ernestine Wooten Pike. He was retired from CSX where he had worked as a Conductor and Yard Master. Mr. Pike had also served as the local chairman of the United Transportation Union. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Manchester First Baptist Church. After his retirement from the railroad and because of his interest in history, he enjoyed working as a security guard at Roosevelt’s Little White House.

Mr. Pike is survived by his wife, Gayle S. Pike of Manchester; his son, Rome Pike of Woodland; his daughters, Marci Baxley and Courtney Newman, both of Manchester; his sister, JoAnn Zujkowski of Eufaula, AL; his brothers, Vernon Pike of Macon and Danny Pike of Waco, TX; eight grandchildren, Leci and Ryan Pike, Shae and Tanner Newman, Saylor and Averi Baxley and Drew and Rhys Lane.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Pike may be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association or Manchester First Baptist Church.
