Dorothy (Cabral) Cordeiro, age 96, of Somerset, passed away January 19, 2013. Born in Fall River, she was the youngest of five children belonging to the late John and Mary Cabral. Dot worked as a seamstress in the mills and did alterations for a dry cleaner at night in order to put her three daughters—Dotti Curry, JoAnn Ryder, and Susan Lima—through both St. Michael’s School and Sacred Hearts Academy. She raised her girls to understand the value of family, hard work and independence. She watched her daughters grow and start families of their own. Dot was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and most everyone else, know her simply as Voie. Voie had the incomparable grace and love to help with whatever job needed doing. She would fold endless piles of laundry, peel and chop vegetables, or rub your hair when you had your head in her lap. Voie played endless card games, enjoyed making puzzles, and entertained all the generations of children with her simple drawings of Mickey Mouse. Voie always gave so much joy to the people that came into her life—family and friends and most recently, to the kind staff at Highland Manor that helped care for her.
“I’m gonna go with the flow.” That’s what Voie would say when life would change. She said it a lot, all the time, and she was never afraid or reluctant to take the next step, whatever it was. She lived in contentment and abundance, with so much love, laughter and joy everywhere around her.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc 1521 N. Main St., Fall River THURSDAY with a calling hour from 8:00 to 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas More Church, Luther Ave., Somerset at 9:30 A.M.
