
Arthur Laferriere, 79, Rhode Island College Professor Emeritus and Fulbright Scholar, passed away peacefully January 17, 2013 at Morgan Health Center, Johnston, RI. He was born in Willimantic, CT to the late Leo and Eleanor (Dunne) Laferriere; Arthur is survived by children Michael Laferriere of Johnston, RI, Laurie Tapozada of Johnston, RI, James Laferriere of Roan Mountain, TN and Thomas Laferriere of Smithfield, RI; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a graduate of Brown University, BS 1955, Rutgers University, MS 1958, and University of Rhode Island, PhD 1960. Mr. Laferriere was a Professor of Chemistry at RIC for 40 years. He retired from RIC in 2000. His retirement years were spent in Florida.
His passions were learning, teaching, travel, competitive sailboat racing, antique cars, coffee and Sudoku. From building a sailboat to becoming a licensed pilot, he enjoyed life to the fullest.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 22 from 5 to 7 pm at ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will be private.
