CHICOPEE – Eva D. (Provost) St. Amand, 86, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her family. She was born in Holyoke on October 5, 1926, a daughter of the late Ernest and Lydia (Fournier) Provost. She was raised in Holyoke and attended the former Precious Blood Elementary and High Schools and lived in the city for many years before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1974. Eva was employed for 22 years as a stitcher at the United Fabricants Company in Agawam and retired in 1990. Active in her faith, Eva was a longtime member of the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and the former Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee Falls. While living in Holyoke, she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne of Precious Blood Church and upon the closing of the church, became a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett. She was currently an active communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. Eva was a quiet woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Joseph P. St. Amand who passed away on July 2, 1977. They were married on April 19, 1947 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with 30 years of happiness together. She leaves her children, Sister Marguerite St. Amand of the Sisters of Saint Anne of Shrewsbury, MA, Gerard A. St. Amand and his wife, Margaret of Union, KY and Donald W. St. Amand of Chicopee with whom she lived; her two grandsons, Matthew St. Amand and his wife, Amanda of Charlotte, NC and James St. Amand and his wife, Heather of Charlottesville, VA; her four great grandchildren, Madeline Morgan St. Amand and Harris St. Amand, Madeline Lily St. Amand and Olivia St. Amand; her three sisters, Rita Bonin of Chicopee; Theresa Archambault of Holyoke and Bernadette Boisjolie and her husband, Richard of Chicopee; and her many nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, January 24, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
