Obituary

William C. Carney Sr. of East Wakefield, NH and a former longtime resident of Woburn passed away suddenly on January 15th. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen C (Garvey). Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Bartholomew J. and Alice (O'Brien) Carney.

Bill, as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was raised and educated in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School with the class of 1954. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and proudly and honorably served his country as a Corporal in the Marine Corp. during the Korean War. When Bill returned home he attended and graduated from the New England Institute of Mortuary Sciences in Boston and worked for several years with his family at the former O'Brien Funeral Home of Woburn. Bill eventually took a position with the American Motors Co. where he worked for many years as the Zone Manager of New England. American Motors was then taken over by the Daimler Chrysler Corporation and Bill worked as the District Manager for over 35 years prior to his retirement. Bill enjoyed his many years in the Automobile Industry and made many wonderful friendships throughout his career.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and golfing. For many years he was very active coaching Pop-Warner Football here in Woburn, and also served on the board of the Woburn Golf and Ski Authority as well as being a member of the Woburn Host Lions Club. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was also a very giving and charitable person especially when it came to different Veteran causes. Bill truly enjoyed his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his devoted children, Pamela Jean Conley of Seabrook, NH, Colleen Mary Edmonds and her husband Geoffrey of Bloomfield Hills, MI, William C. Carney Jr. and his fiancée Tiffanie Chase of Rye, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Sean P. Conley, Brian C. Edmonds, Meghan Edmonds and Bayley Chase and loving great grandfather of Sheamus Conley. Brother of Charles Carney of Wilmington, the late Jean Ross, James Carney, and Alice O'Brien. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Tuesday, January 22nd, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
