NATICK: Bruce Cameron, age 87, of Natick, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013, at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline (Davies) Cameron who died in July, 2012.
Born in Medford on March 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Wallace and Alice (Wheeler) Cameron. He was a student at Cambridge High and Latin when, at age 17, he joined the Marine Corps to fight in the South Pacific. He proudly wore nine Department of Defense medals: the Naval Accommodation Medal for the Battle of Guam, the Presidential Unit Citation medal for the Battle of Okinawa, the China Service ribbon for disarming the Japanese in Tsingtao, China, and the Asiatic Pacific medal with three stars, among others.
Bruce returned home and continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Suffolk University. He entered the financial services industry and while employed with Metropolitan Life held six different positions, the last being a District Sales Manager. He was then associated with CNA until his retirement in 1997. Bruce was a Chartered Life Underwriter and enjoyed teaching others aspiring to the title as the C.L.U. instructor at Northeastern University for ten years. He was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship bestowed by the Marlborough Rotary Club, where he had been a faithful member for 45 years. A life member of the Marine Corps League, Bruce was also a member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs, the Leatherneck Honor Society, and the Metropolitan Veteran’s Association.
Predeceased also by a son, Bruce, he is survived by his daughter, Thayne Cameron of Natick; two sons, Robert Cameron of Franklin, and Mark Cameron and his wife Melissa of Natick; four grandchildren, Ben and Tyler Hendricks, and Ryan and Jack Cameron; his great-grandson, Cameron Hendricks; his sister, Jean Brown and her husband Arthur of Walpole, and many nieces.
His funeral will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 39 East Central Street, Natick, on Monday, Jan. 21st at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Sunday 2 – 5p.m. Go Pats!
