SHERBORN: Virginia L. (Simpson) Brown, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Beth Israel Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Framingham on October 13, 1920 the daughter of the late Harry L. Simpson and Susan Henrietta (Chesley) Simpson.
Virginia was the loving and devoted mother of David H. Brown and his wife Nancy Hilton Brown of Sherborn and Susan V. Haggerty and her husband Michael P. Haggerty of Sherborn. Cherished grandmother of Kathleen S. Reilly of Sherborn; John M. Haggerty of Sherman Oaks, CA; Meghan L. Haggerty of Sherborn; Matthew D. Brown and his wife Katherine Brown of Amherst and Jeffrey W. Brown of Sherborn. Devoted great-grandmother of Liam M. and Maeve Reilly of Southborough. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Wife for 57 years of the late Harland Francis Brown who died in November of 2007. Sister of the late Carleton Simpson; Robert Simpson; Warren L. Simpson and Susan Miriam “Mimi” Jones.
Virginia has been a resident of Sherborn for the past 62 years and spent her formative years in Saxonville. She graduated from Framingham High School with the Class of 1938 and from the Framingham Union School of Nursing with the Class of 1942. She continued her nursing education at the Boston Lying-In Hospital. For nearly 20 years she had a distinguished career as a registered nurse and as the head nurse in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Framingham Union Hospital. After retiring from nursing, she was associated for several years with the Town of Sherborn in the Tax Office and also served on the Town of Sherborn Elderly Housing Committee for many years. Virginia was involved with the Pilgrim Church in Sherborn on the Missions Committee and the Care and Concern Committee. She has been a member of the Faith Community Church in Hopkinton for the past several years. She loved gardening, was an avid reader and enjoyed all animals, especially cats. Her greatest gift was the love and dedication that she had for her family and friends.
Visitations will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Faith Community Church, 146 East Main St, Hopkinton with the Rev. Robert Cloutier officiating.
Private family burial will be in the Brown family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sherborn.
