Nicholas D. Coccoluto, age 88, of Brooksby Village, Peabody and a former longtime resident of Woburn, passed away on January 14th following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ida C. (Spadano). Born in Somerville and raised in Cambridge he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Francesca (Salemme) Coccoluto.
Nicholas attended Cambridge schools where he graduated from high school. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country from 1942 to 1946 during WWII. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal w/4 stars and the God Conduct Medal. Upon his return home to civilian life, Nick began working for the Haartz Auto Covering Co. now located in Acton and was a faithful employee for over thirty-five years prior to his retirement. Nick was a fourth degree member of the Somerville Knights of Columbus and he was a longtime member of the South End Italian Club here in Woburn. He was also an active parishioner of St. Barbara Church for many years. Nick truly enjoyed people and for the past eight years has been a very active and well known personality at the Brooksby Village Community where he fostered many wonderful friendships. Nick enjoyed the arts and especially enjoyed attending and listening to opera. He himself enjoyed singing and participating in many different plays and productions. Family was Nick's primary focus in life and he cherished his time with his family and especially looked forward to spending the summer months at the beach in Ogunquit, ME with his family.
Nick is survived by his children, Lorraine Cheney and her husband Bill of Southlake, TX, Joseph Coccoluto and his wife Beth of Newbury, Jeff Coccoluto and his wife Janice of Stoneham. He was the loving grandfather of Kristen deZeeuw and husband Derek, Bill Cheney and wife Tara, Nicole, Meredith and Noah Coccoluto. He was the loving great grandfather of Hailey Cheney. Brother of Tony Coccoluto and wife Angela of Naples, FL, Sal Coccoluto and wife Mary of Somerville, and the late Florence Coccoluto.
Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Saturday, January 19th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Friday, from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and entombment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
