Cape Coral, Florida – Edmond R. Schelling 88, died Friday January 11, 2013 at Hope Hospice following a brave battle with cancer.
Mr. Schelling was born in Methuen January 4, 1925 the son of Maurice and Marie L. (Bougie) Schelling and received his education at St. Ann’s Grammar and was a graduate of Lawrence High school.
For many years Edmond worked in the Mills as a machinist and was employed as a Mechanical Inspector with Textron of Wilmington, Ma. before his retirement in 1990. During World War II he served his country in the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate 3rd class and prior to wars end was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Area (1 star)Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Edmond, while living here was an attendant of Saint Monica Church, former president of the Gill Avenue Association and was a member of Slips and Clutches square dance club and former President of Saint Theresa Holy Name.
SURVIVORS: His wife of 66 yrs. Marguerite G. (Couture) Schelling.
His children Roger E. and his wife Marguerite Schelling of Salem, NH, Mark H. and his wife Tina Schelling of Florida, Edmond R. Schelling, Jr. and his wife Teri of North Carolina, daughters Diane M. and her husband Robert Milot of Florida, and Barbara J. and her husband Charles Tuttle of South Carolina, one sister Marcelle Rochon of Augusta,Georgia, one brother Donald Schelling of Methuen and 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schelling was predeceased by his brother Roland Schelling.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday morning at 9 o’clock from St. Monica Parish in Methuen with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends will be warmly received on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, Ma.
