Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Thelma (Jouvelakas) Marakoulos, age 83, a longtime resident of Framingham, died early Monday morning, January 14, 2013, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew T. Marakoulos for 41 years.

Born, raised and educated in Somerville, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Liapis) Jouvelakas. Thelma and Andrew were married in 1953 and lived in Allston prior to settling in Framingham in 1960.

Thelma was ever ready to assist her husband at the smaller diners he originally operated and when he opened Giardina’s Restaurant in Waltham, she worked regularly as a server. After Andrew’s death in 1994, she was employed for over ten years in the lunchroom at Saint Mark’s School. Devoted to her family and church, Thelma’s next great passion was cooking. She could prepare a delicious meal or the most intricate of pastries with equal skill. She was a lady with a big heart and generosity of spirit.

She is survived by a daughter, Angela Baglaneas and her husband John of Southborough; a son, Ted A. Marakoulos and his wife Debbie of Marlborough; three grandchildren, Christen, Theodore, and Emma; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late George Jouvelakas, Excel Alexis, Mary Lamonakis, and Eugenia Zographos.

Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Thursday, Jan. 17th at 9:00a.m. with a Funeral Service in Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston, at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
