Obituary

Fall River – William P. Cody, 87, of Main Road, Westport Point died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carolyn (Columbia) Cody.

He was born in Fall River, son of the late William P. & Margaret (Brogan) Cody, and had resided in Westport Point for many years. A 1934 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River and graduate of the Thibodeau Business School in Fall River, he was the owner / operator of the former Columbia Steel Distributorship in Warren, RI until his retirement.

Mr. Cody was a United States Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Westport Historical Society, Acoaxet Club of Westport Harbor, V.F.W. Post 486 of Fall River and the New Bedford Whaling Museum. After his retirement he lived in St. Croix United States Virgin Islands for many years and was a member of the St Croix Landmark Society, the East End Club and the Carambola Gold Club. Prior to his illness he enjoyed golf, sailing and traveling.

Including his wife he is survived by a brother: Joseph M. Cody of Nantucket; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the stepson of the late Anna (Phelan) Cody.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, Friday, July 9, 2004 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Thursday 5 – 8 P.M.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
