SPRINGFIELD – Simone A. (Campbell) Drapeau, 91, of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 12, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Roxton Falls, Province of Quebec, Canada on November 20, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Merille and Claudia (Courtemanche) Campbell. Around 1925, she came with her parents and settled in Easthampton, Massachusetts where she was raised and lived for many years. While living in Easthampton, she was a communicant of Notre Dame Church where she was a member of the Children of Mary. After her marriage in Easthampton in 1947, Simone and her husband, William, settled on Dwight Street in the North End section of Springfield. She remained a resident of Springfield for the remainder of her life. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield where she was a member of Les Dames de Sainte Anne. She was currently a communicant of Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. Simone was a former member of the Brightwood Bowling League and a longtime member of the Brightwood Golden Age Club. She was a quiet woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, William G. Drapeau, Sr. who was Called Home on March 10, 2007. They were married at Notre Dame Church in Easthampton on July 19, 1947 and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. Besides her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her loving son, William G. Drapeau, Jr. who was Called Home on February 11, 2009 and her dear brothers, Armand, Andre, Eugene, Ralph, Gerard, Arthur and Reverend Robert Campbell, MS. She leaves her loving children, Susan M. Ewing and her husband, William, of Springfield, Janet S. Picard and her husband, Joseph, of Westfield, Madeleine A. Laskoski and her husband, Bill, of Oneonta, AL, Norman A. Drapeau and his wife, Diana, of Springfield and Eugene A. Drapeau of Rio Rancho, NM; her loving daughter-in-law, Anita Drapeau of Kingston, MA; her 14 cherished grandchildren; her 18 cherished great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Doris Kovitch of Easthampton; her dear brother, Maurice Campbell and his wife, Claire, of Easthampton; her dear sister-in-law, Yvette Campbell of Easthampton; her dear sister-in-law of the Drapeau family, Cecile Drapeau of Folsom, CA; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held Thursday morning, January 17, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Susan G.
