Obituary

Thomas R. Mauzy, 71, of Derry, NH died peacefully on Friday January 11, 2013 at his home. He was born in Grosse Pointe, MI on April 16, 1941, a son of the late Henry and Thelma (Smith) Mauzy. Tom was raised and educated in Derry, graduating from Pinkerton Academy. He was involved with DeMolay as a youngster. Mr. Mauzy proudly served his country for over 20 years in the US Army, enlisting at the age of 22. He spent 12 years in Germany while in the Army. He worked for 15 years on the Persian Missile system and nine years as an evaluator and trainer of NATO personnel. His last five years in the army he was a local recruiter. After Tom retired from the military in 1983, he went to work for the Rockingham County Department of Corrections for over 20 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American legion Post #9 in Derry, American Vets NH Post #2, and the Disabled American Veterans NH Post #13 in Exeter.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Hildegard (Baur) Mauzy of Derry, one son, Thomas R. Mauzy II of Sunapee, NH, one daughter Stephanie Carlan of Homer, GA, two grandchildren, Ryan Max Mauzy and Kristin Carlan, and one great grandson, Justin Carlan.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, January 16th at 11:00am in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 DW Highway, Boscawen, NH. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
