Obituary

Ida N. (Venturoso) Simpson, 82, of Franklin died January 10 in the Emeritus at Canterbury Woods in Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Simpson who died in 1994.
Born in Norwood, October 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Antonio and Palmina (DiBenedetti) Venturoso, Mrs. Simpson was raised in Norwood and had lived in Franklin since 1965.
Mrs. Simpson had worked at the Whiting & Davis Company for over 20 years retiring as the leader of the selection department.
Following her retirement from Whiting & Davis, she worked in the cafeteria at Dean College and was also a school crossing guard for the Town of Franklin.
Ida was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams, Bobby Orr was her favorite.
She loved to laugh and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her happiest moments.
She is survived by her children, Russell Simpson and his wife Patricia of North Attleboro, Carol McGrath and her husband Joseph of Pittsfield, Kathleen Karas of Warwick, Rhode Island and Cheryl Karnafel and her husband Paul of Foxboro.
She is also survived by her siblings, Octavius “Tappy” Venteroso of Norwood,Renee "Dolly" Malacinski of Norwood, Irma Dixon of Walpole and Nancy Studley of Sandwich.
She was the sister of the late Ronald Venturoso, Nina Iodice and Lila Poelart.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Peter Karas, Jennifer McGrath, Kyle McGrath, Michael Karas and Cian McGrath and her 7 great-grandchildren.
Ida is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 16 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street in Franklin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Jude’s Church, Norfolk at 10:00
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
Due to floral restrictions at the National Cemetery, donations are asked to be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
