Martha L. “PeeWee” Merritt, 73, of St. Simons Island, died Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Graveside services will be held 2 P.M., Sunday, January 13, 2013 in the Osierfield Cemetery, Irwin County, with the Rev. Steve Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Merritt was born July 9, 1939 in Moultrie to the late Archie Luke & Eva Lou Berryhill Merritt. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. An avid bowler, Mrs. Merritt had lived on St. Simons Island since 1965, moving from Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Leonard W. Merritt and her son: Thomas Merritt, both of St. Simons Island; two brothers: Marvin Merritt of Fitzgerald and Larry Merritt of Houston, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Rudine Merritt, LaQuita Joyner, and an infant sister: Coleene Merritt.
