WORCESTER-Robert Stimpson, 87, formerly of 21 Dillon Street, died Monday, July 5th in Notre Dame Long Term Care after an illness. His wife of 60 years, Mary A. (MacDonald) Stimpson died in December of 2003. He leaves 2 sons, Robert J. Stimpson of Worcester and Andrew M. Stimpson of Webster, 5 daughters, Mary E. O’Halloran and Kathleen T. Stimpson both of Weymouth, Ann E. Pomerance of Lebanon, NH, Patricia F. Stimpson of Everett, WA and Jane M. Stimpson of Worcester, a sister, Elizabeth Stimpson of Millbury, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. A sister, Mary B. Stimpson died in 1980.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Roy and Mary (Longley) Stimpson and attended Clark University. Mr. Stimpson owned and operated Stimpson Oil Company for 25 years. He then worked for the City of Worcester School Department in the maintenance department for several years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church and a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church. He enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter and was a summer resident of Falmouth. He was an avid Red Sox fan.
The funeral is Thursday, July 8th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Avenue. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 7th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of the donors choice.
