Mrs. Anna Iova Elizabeth McCarthy, age 82, of Billerica formerly of Woburn and Somerville passed away on January 7th, at the Massachusetts General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas R. "Toddy" McCarthy who passed in April of 1992. Born in Union Bridge, MD she was the only daughter of the late Omer and Anne (Blacksten) Stauffer.
Anna was raised in Maryland and moved to Somerville with her family during her early high school years. She graduated from Somerville High School with the class of 1947. She married her beloved husband on May 28, 1955 and together they brought eight wonderful children into the world. Anna and her large family moved to Woburn in 1968 where she resided for the next 39 years. Anna retired from the Somerville Hospital where she worked as an Admitting Clerk and Switchboard Operator for over 30 years. Anna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cherished being with her family and was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years she enjoyed vacationing at Hampton Beach during the summer months and tending to her flowers and gardens. She was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Anna is survived by her devoted children, Linda Eori of Billerica, Thomas McCarthy and wife Michelle of Ft. Myers, FL, Phillip McCarthy and wife Lisha of Bath, ME, Kevin McCarthy and girlfriend Nancy Gorman of Litchfield, NH, John McCarthy and wife Karen of Woburn, Paulina McCarthy of Oldsmar, FL, David McCarthy and wife Karen of Woburn, Robert McCarthy and wife Annaliza of Manchester, NH. She is also survived by 13 loving grandchildren and 6 loving great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Paul, Robert, Dale and Floyd Stauffer.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Friday, January 11th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
