Obituary

Benny L. Spinola, 82, of New Bedford died Saturday January 5, 2013 at the Oaks Nursing Center.

Born in Wareham, the son of the late Julius Spinola and Jennie (Lopes) Spinola Pires, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Spinola was formerly employed as an engineer fireman at Otis Air Force Base.

He had been a volunteer boxing trainer at the Boys and Girls Club in New Bedford. In his younger days, he was a lightweight boxer. He was an avid bowler and car enthusiast. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include five children, Debra Boboruzian and Michelle Turner, both of Plymouth, Roberta DePina, Susan Evora, and Mark Spinola, all of New Bedford; three sisters, Doris Spinola, Dorothy Pina, and June Monteiro, all of New Bedford; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Robert Spinola.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
