THORNTON – Reverend Richard Ernest May, 66, of 71 Waterville Acres, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Concord Hospital.
He was born on July 9, 1946 in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Ernest V. and Gladys I. (Gilbert) May. He was a graduate of Penncrest High School and the University of Delaware, Norwich University and Virginia Theological Seminary. Richard served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He also worked for the New Castle County Park System in Delaware as a planner. Richard also worked as a teacher educating at schools such as the US Naval Academy Prep School in Maryland, Daniel Webster College in NH, College of William and Mary in Virginia, Norwich University in Vermont, Woodberry Forrest School in Virginia and Fryeburg academy in Maine. He enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, reading and botany.
He is survived by his son, Alex May of Hillsborough, N.C., his daughter, Hillary May of Laconia and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be private.
