Julia "JuJu" (Gomes) Soares, 74, of New Bedford died July 1, 2004 at Rhode Island Hospital unexpectedly.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Pedro and Amelia (Gomes) Gomes, she lived Brooklyn for most of her life before moving to New Bedford in 1994.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Soares was formerly employed as a waitress at Carmichael's Diner in Jamaica, NY for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Fort Phoenix Post 2892 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fairhaven and the Bisca Tournament Club in New Bedford.
Survivors include her daughter, Jody Soares of Flushing, NY; her son, James Soares, Jr. of Flushing, NY; 3 godchildren, Faith Silva, Stephanie Telfair and Dennis Soares, all of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Peter Gomes of New Bedford and Manuel Gomes of Brooklyn, NY; 2 sisters, Emmie Gomes and Theresa Santos, both of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the mother of the late Sr. Judy Soares, R.S.M. and sister of the late Aurora DosSantos, Antoinette Jenkins and Faith "Corday" Rivera.
