Gladys E. (Wally) (Simpson) Bohlken, of Kingston, formerly of Braintree and Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the age of 95.
Wally was born in Taunton and lived in Malden, North Quincy and Braintree before moving to Halifax 31 years ago and then to The Inn at Silver Lake in Kingston.
Her favorite room was the kitchen. Someone always needed cookies, muffins, a casserole or the family's favorite Congo bars. She loved our family gatherings and happy we had so many. The multiple cards and calls she made just to check and leave a smile were gratifying. In spite of the hours spent on the golf course, she was basically a "home body". She loved writing poetry to make cards more personal and food shopping was a definite pleasure. She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dancing, traveling, ceramics and crafts. She was a longtime member of the Bethany Congregational Church, Halifax Congregational Church and the CC of Halifax (where she had a Hole in One).
Wife of the late Carl A. Bohlken. Longtime friend of Emery Olson. She was the loving mother of Charlene A. (Bohlken) Clifford of Halifax and Cape Coral, FL, David E. Bohlken of Onset, Carl A. (Chuck) Bohlken, Jr. of Quincy and Donald E. Bohlken of Falmouth. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was also an aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Clayton Simpson and Robert Simpson.
At the family's request, visiting hours and funeral services have been omitted. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Bethany Congregational Church, Quincy, Halifax Congregational Church or the American Cancer Society.
