Mary M. DeBenedictis passed away peacefully on December 29 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester where she resided for the past three years.
Mary was born on October 21, 1909 in Boston’s North End and at the age of ten the family moved to Marshall St. in Medford where Mary resided for 89 years before taking ill and moving to Gloucester to be close to relatives.
The daughter of the late Alfonso and Jennie DeBenedictis she was the sister of the late Nicholas of Hampton, NH, William and Concetta of Medford and Mario of Stoneham. She is survived by cousins Gloria Leone and Margaret Benedict, both of Gloucester, nephew Robert and his wife Joan of Gloucester; nephew William of Waco, TX; nephew Paul and his wife Adele of Palm Beach Gardens FL; niece Beverly of Ocala, FL; niece Barbara of Boylston and sister-in-law Paulette of Lansdowne, VA.
A graduate of Medford High School in 1928, Mary began her working career as a legal secretary to J. Elmer Chisholm in Medford until 1942. In 1943 she worked as senior clerk for the Rationing Board in Medford, until 1945. From 1945 through 1970 she was Administrative Assistant with the firm of Abbott and Hall in Cambridge and from 1970 until her retirement she was undersecretary to Edward Johnson, Founder of Fidelity Management.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday January 3rd from 4 thru 8 PM and on Friday morning at 8 followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 9 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
