Obituary

Dorothy B. “Dot” (Koch) Canning, – 90, a 50-year resident of Winchester, passed away Dec. 30, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late James F. Canning. Born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Hilda (Braun) Koch. Mrs. Canning was employed in the Winchester Town Clerk’s office as an administrator for many years prior to her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting afghans, playing board games and bridge. Dot, who loved living at the Mount Vernon House in Winchester, also enjoyed visits by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her “pet grandchildren”. As a member of the First Congregational Church, she enjoyed helping with and caring for the infants during church services. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, including trips to Spain and Italy. Dot was the loving mother of Marcia J. Emerson of Billerica, Jayne F. Allard of Newburyport and Douglas Canning of Olympia, WA. She was the devoted grandmother of Walter, Daniel, Tammy and Wendy Emerson and great-grandmother of Reilly Emerson and Liam Lambert, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held in the First Congregational Church of Winchester, 21 Church St. (on the Common) on Thurs., Jan. 3 at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wed., Jan. 2 from 4-8PM. If desired, donations in Dot’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
